Delhi Government Proposes Reduced Motor Vehicles Tax on Scrapping Old Vehicles: HT Auto Desk
Are you a vehicle owner in Delhi looking to upgrade to a new, more environmentally friendly vehicle? Well, you’re in luck! The Delhi government has proposed a new initiative that could help you save up to 20% on Motor Vehicles Tax when purchasing a new vehicle by scrapping your old one.
The proposal, which is currently awaiting approval from the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, aims to incentivize vehicle owners to send their old vehicles for scrapping in order to reduce the number of polluting vehicles on the roads of the national capital. By producing a certificate from a Registered Vehicles Scrapping Facility (RVSF) verifying that their old vehicle has been scrapped, buyers can receive a concession on Motor Vehicles Tax for registering their new vehicle.
Kailash Gahlot, the Transport Minister of Delhi, hopes that this proposed tax incentive will encourage vehicle owners to shift to more environmentally friendly options such as electric vehicles or alternative fuel vehicles. The government has also issued strict guidelines cracking down on the usage of old vehicles that cause pollution, with hefty penalties for those found in violation.
In addition to the proposed tax incentives for non-transport and transport vehicles, the overall Motor Vehicles Tax sop will not exceed 50% of the scrap value. This initiative is part of a larger effort to remove polluting vehicles from the roads, aligning with the central government’s vehicle scrappage policy.
So, if you’re considering upgrading your vehicle in Delhi, keep an eye out for updates on this proposal and take advantage of the potential savings on Motor Vehicles Tax. It’s a win-win situation for both you and the environment!
