BAN Toxics commends the FDA Philippines for issuing FDA Advisories Nos. 2023-1299, 2023-1300, and 2023-1301, warning the public against the purchase and use of unauthorized Toy and Childcare Article (TCCA) LATO-LATO TOYS. These products have not undergone the necessary notification process, raising concerns about their quality and safety.
In response to these advisories, BAN Toxics had previously issued a public health alert on May 23, urging against the sale of lato-lato toys in both local and online markets. The group’s findings were reported to the FDA for regulatory action.
According to BAN Toxics, all lato-lato toys tested lacked proper markings, failing to meet labeling requirements under Republic Act 10620, also known as the Toy and Game Safety Labeling Act of 2013.
Thony Dizon, Toxics Campaigner at BAN Toxics, praised the FDA for taking action to protect children from potential harm posed by lato-lato toys. The group called on regulatory agencies and local officials to enforce the advisories and ensure these products are not sold or distributed.
BAN Toxics also appealed to toy stores to cease selling unauthorized lato-lato toys, emphasizing the need to safeguard children from potential hazards and injuries.
Under R.A. 10620, criminal penalties for non-compliance include imprisonment and fines. It is crucial for all stakeholders to prioritize the safety of children and prevent the sale of unsafe products in the market.
